Sell me one of the two consoles

No need to get your panties in a twist Mr Shock Horror, was just trying to help. I couldn't give a toss which console is better, just offering some insight.

Nobody can say which console is the best as it's pretty subjective, was only correcting a bit of misinformation.

If it's for media purposes the PS3 is probably better than both of them and can be picked up for next to nothing these days, though from the OP it sounds like you can just use your PC to stream stuff to your TV so I don't really see the point of the thread.

if your looking at the media player side of it the ps4 is lacking badly ( ive got one btw ) . the ps3 beats it hands down

edit ...killswitch posted before me my exact thoughts

my ps3 / ps4 gripes

play cd ............................................... ps3 yes --- ps4 no
download cd playlists............................ ps3 yes --- ps4 no
own digital films on your hard-drive....... ps3 yes --- ps4 no, streaming only , which means if internet/ps network is down your knackered.

I would always go with PlayStation if I had a good PC. There's a higher chance that Microsoft exclusives will come to PC but almost zero chance that you will get SCE published titles anywhere else.

get both its what i did, but the lads have the answer for u already, get what all your mates are on.

Myself i prefer the PS4 more powerful Blu Ray drives better quality and its got Playstation Plus which when you own a VITA and PS3 also then its pays.

But you mention warcraft, if its World of Warcraft tomorrow all my consoles will get dusty as Warlords of Dreanor is out.....

Not sure why you didn't just ask me Chris, although I think I did suggest an XB1 to you a while back which you dismissed :p

Anyway, an XB1 will do everything you need it to. Like you, I rarely watch actual TV, I only watch it for football (England games usually) but the TV integration on XB1 is brilliant. The ability to snap to TV while doing something else is great. One guide, is superb and changing channel with voice works very well (Kinect).

As for sound, it will output every format you will need and play 3D Blu Rays, all in 1080p. Not sure why people say it doesn't.

Media player and DNLA is excellent and will play all your mkv files with no issues and Netflix is there too.

I dismissed Kinect before really using it and I have to say it's fantastic. Voice controlling your Xbox is a joy. Play, Pause, Go to, Snap To, On, Off, Switch.... It's superb.

A PS4 can do pretty much all of this and is arguably slightly better for multi platform games, but since gaming is not your main priority I'd say get what your mates are on. I'm on XB1, so if you get a PS4 I will literally kill you :p

Seriously though, come round, see for yourself what the XB1 can do and make up your own mind.

OK, time for a non-fanboi post!

I've had the pleasure of owning both consoles and I have come to the conclusion that the Xbox One is the better console. "Why is that Casdawer?" I hear you ask, well let me tell you in the easiest way possible... bullet points.

  • The console is an all-in-one media centre (center?)
    • I have my Sky Box plugged into it and having the ability to switch in and out of games to watch TV and use Snap-In is awesome and everything just works seamlessly.
  • Kinect
    • I bought my Xbox without Kinect and regretted it instantly. I love being able to walk into the room and just say Xbox On. The Xbox switches itself on as well as the Sky Box and TV and I've set it so that TV comes on as default. I can then switch channels with just the sound of my voice. AWESOME.
  • Updates are more regular and cover more!
    • I found the PS4 got very few updates and those updates were quite small (the largest is the new 2.0 patch which offers functionality the Xbox has had for a while!) Xbox always gets a monthly patch.
  • EA Access
    • Best £20 I've ever spent! Having access to a load of AAA games and not having to pay for them separately?! Plus discounts on EA games on the Xbox Store!
  • The Exclusives
    • I (personally) believe that the Xbox exclusives are better than the PS4 exclusives.
  • The UI
    • Simple really, the UI on the PS4 is pants. It's very minamilistic where the Xbox has everything you need right in front of you ( and the Kinect makes it super easy to access any app / game within seconds!)
