Selling a car privately

i have a 2009 Focus with 80K on the clock, 1.8 manual, zetec

WBAC = £1,000
Motorway = £1,500

motorway seems to be the better option nowadays anyway I've read on this forum, less hassle

Motorway offered me double (£15.5k) what WBAC (£8k) offered for my Zoe when I sold it.

On a £1000 car how much can you possibly be knocked down?

No harm in checking and given the state of the market offers may be better than expected.

Oh they will..

Recently sold one of my old cars to them...

49.99inc VAT - To sell to them :confused:

Service history was deemed as only part not full :/
Apparantly a MOT Certfiicate and a service receipt for the same day doesn't constitute a service if the service receipt doesn't have the mileage on.

Any scratch/dent over 1.5cm or a stonechip knocks the value by about 150 per panel - they must be using an awesome body shop for those prices haha

Motorway is a little different to WBAC, when I used them in June you basically end up making an advert using the guided "app" with pictures of your car and its history, then car dealers get a couple of days to view and bid, you ok the best bid and the car dealer who won it can ether sort direct or work through them. So depending on your car Motorway may result in a better price but it may not, sometimes the actual bids may be lower. With WBAC you add in all the details, go down there and a guy goes round it and rates it, sometimes up on what you have done and you do the deal there and then.

If I recall my M240 was initially given a value 2k over WBAC but when all done it was only a couple of hundred more. Mine was pristine with a BMW FSH but high mileage at 50k in a little over two years.

I've sold two cars recently, one on ebay and one on Facebook Marketplace. In both instances I got much more than WBAC offered but did have to sift through the usual time wasters and low ball offers.

I'm selling a 2011 Peugeot 5008 next year and that will be facebook because I think older cars like this will do better on there, at least you can filter out most of the low ball idiots before they come and its free!

Bank transfer only and it leaves when I can see the transaction on my account :)

I decided to chance it and increased the price to £1500!

I listed it on Autotrader for £47ish and sold the car within 3 days!
On the first day, I had three timewasters who wanted to see the car in the evening. Due to safety and it being dark, I told them to come the next day during the day. They didn't! I had another guy who rang me at 9PM and wanted to see the car asap. I told him to come the next day and he infomed me the next day that he had last minute shift change at work and could not come.
I had someone else ring me in the afternoon and he wanted to come asap. He came with his wife and little one and he bought the car for £1400. I did take him on a quick test drive round the block without insurance ( Hourly insurance costs £20 ).

He did a BACS transfer and the money is still in my account.

Funny thing is the guy lives next door to my other property half an hour away from my main residence.

They wont do this with older cars - a 15 year old Focus is of no use to a dealer other than as a PX bargaining tool to sell someone a new car, so it would go straight to auction anyway.

Nice result.
