Selling a decent mountain bike - Having no luck on Gumtree, or Freeads...Shall I try reluctant ebay?

Yeah that's who my local bike shop suggested :) so I am going to use them, not bad for £22! and they are specialist bike shippers, amongst other things.

Cant go wrong really

Nah not tried forums, to be honest I think a lot of forums will have a policy in place like OcUK do for any sale stuff.

I sold my bike on the bikeradar forum. Even tho I used paisley freight it was actually DHL who collected the bike. You will have to pack your bike into a bike box ( any bike shop should let you have one ).

Cool :) yeah bike shop has already said he should have some coming in next week so will text me when they are in, or he has given me the location where he gets them from, which I nip to, to get one.

Hopefully they are free.

Have another bike shop to try also.

I know that you obviously take the front wheel off, turn handlebars in, you can put stoppers on the brake piston (think the bike shop guy was going to give me one) to use for front. Bubblewrap all the frame, as much as the wheels and bars, make sure the box has good padding. But do you need to use anything else? maybe ties in the box to secure bike and stop it rattling about? or just whack enough bubble wrap in so it doesn't move about along with cardboard?

My LBS gave me a used box for free. little bit battered but did the job.

I sold a road bike so didn't have that problem, however to keep the forks separated i just cut a small piece of wood to size and used that as a spacer, i dare say the same can be done to keep the pistons back.

Bubble wrap if you have it, its a pretty tight fit in the box once its in there so its not too bad. I put extra cardboard strips / squares where parts of the bike touched the box just to give that little bit extra strength to those parts of the box. I also put extra padding / cardboard around the derailleur. I wrapped cardboard around the frame, basically i wrapped every part of the bike i could with cardboard, the buyer said it took him over an hour to unbox and un wrap the bike. over kill he said :p

The way i looked at it, wanted the bike to get there in one piece and in the same condition as i sent it, over kill perhaps but it got there as i intended it to.
