After years of drooling over macs, I finally shelled out for a 20" Core 2 Duo iMac, 2 gigs of Ram, 500gb hard drive, the whole kaboodle..

Unfortunately, I just haven't gelled with it... end up using my Thinkpad a lot still :(.

1. How much of a hit will I take if I try and sell it?
2. Where should I try and sell it (I've only got about 5 feedbacks on ebay, all as a buyer)
3. Should I just tough it out and get used to it

(Also, you might ask why not just install Vista- thats what I'm thinking of doing now, but have also decided a laptop suits my workflow much more at the moment as well- god I'm bad at this.. spent the last few years moaning about the small screen on my laptop, wishing I had a big widescreen)

You are the only person I have ever come across that has ever even considered smwitching back to a Windows after using Mac OS X. :)

Try and stick with it but if it really doesn't work out then you have to go with what works for you. You could sell your iMac and then get a really decent MacBook Pro that will kick the arse of your Thinkpad and have the advantage of running both OS X and Windows.

Check out http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/ for tips on how things work differently and try to stick with OS X, you know it really is a far superiour OS than Windows. I still use Windows for some things at work and it is a horrible experience after you get used to OS X. I hope that helps.

Try to stick it out :) and give it a proper go, not just the occasional use.

I don't know what the iMac's are like to sell, but 12inch Powerbooks STILL go for £600 on ebay, and they haven't sold them for over a year!

im #2 :p

I found OSX too simplistic and very childish to use, so it was back to linux for me.

eBay does seem to do well for selling macs. Is it too old to send it back to apple ?

Thanks for the replies guys, in particular thanks for the link AJ, look good.

I guess I'll carry on using it while I investigate how much I could get for it / where to sell it. Unfortunately, ebay looks out as I only have 5 feedbacks and that was a while ago..

You shouldn't let that stop you on eBay. Everyone has to start some time and you can go the extra mile to reassure buyers.

What are your issues with the OS? I know small things can really annoy (the font rendering and mouse acceleration (not speed) did in my case). I do use OS X as my main system, but it's not perfect in every regard, despite what all the hyped-up converts/fanboys might say.

Unfortunately, The new iMac's depreciate quite a lot, you might struggle to sell it so i'll offer to take it off you for a tenner :p

Seriously though, just take off about £50-£100 of the price you paid and it'll sell, if you carry on with it, get parallels and stuff you'll be sorted though. :)

Simplistic? You didn't find the terminal then? ;)

I love having a professionally designed and mature GUI on top of a hard unix core.

childish? lol funny as. mac osx is one the the best operating systems there is in my opinion, easy is good. childish? no. it does what you want it to do without any whining.

im well aware of the terminal :p

it just seemed to overly fluffy for me, and i personally found it counter inuative and not nearly customisable enough.

In quite a few threads I see certain OSes or Window managers being described as childish. What exactly does this mean? The most frequent ones I see are Aqua on OS X and Luna on XP. What makes a GUI childish? What are the qualities that make for a responsible adult operating interface?

I hated a default XP interface as it was childish and tried to do too much for you and I found it harder to do what would have been basic under Win2kpro tasks (mainly network related). When I switched to OSX it was initial quite scarey the total lack of configuring, it seems to take even more options out of your hands than XP. For that reason I can see why people would call OSX a childish interface, but, so far, its been intuitive enough for me to not struggle to do anything I want, unlike XP it just seems to work right first time.

Add me to that list :) Using OS X made me realise how good Windows is.
