Is anyone else getting bouncebacks when they try sending email to hotmail / outlook / live / email addresses via BT.

We've been having problems for over a week now and BT are next to useless in providing us with any info as to when it will be sorted. They just ask me to keep forwarding the bounce back messages

The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.

Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors.>

I'm on BT (Infinity 2) and often send emails via Outlook connecting to Hotmail, as well as through my own mail server without any issues. Also done the same on my Lumia 950 XL too. No issues.

A quick search of that IP shows that it's being blacklisted by two locations at least. Seems like someone's been doing something naughty and spamming from that IP that you all share. Definitely sounds like something BT should be looking at.

Had a very similar issue from work, but it was from our own Exchange server. We recently had a change of broadband so we have a different static IP, but attempting to send to Outlook based accounts showed our IP was banned. Contacted Microsoft but it took over a month for them to unblock the IP.

However seeing as your email is via BT... surely that means Microsoft themselves is blocking an IP BT is using for their email servers? BT really needs to contact Microsoft in that case.

Maybe it's time to dump the BT email and move to Gmail/Outlook.

Yup my folks are having this problem at the moment, looks like that BT server/IP is on a blacklist somewhere.

Out of interest what server name are you using for the smtp server? They still have an old btconnect.com smart host and was wondering if there was anything newer to use as that's been running donkeys years now.

Sooner I can get them off the rickety server in their office and into Office 365 for it all the better.

It does seem to be the case. It's been over a week now and all I get from BT is... "Currently as it stands, we are still experiencing issues in regards to sending e-mails to hotmail / Microsoft. Currently we are endeavouring to make sure that this issue is resolved as quickly as possible and apologise for any issues so far."

Gives me a more of a reason to get my folks moved to Office 365 if it's going to be stuffed for long.

Not sure how long their old outdated and unsupported mail server will last lol, it needs taking out and shooting.

£15 a month for them to shift it all to MS is worth it for me!
