Sending files.. Any ideas?

Hello gurus,

My friend and I often need to send large videos to each other. I have a terrible Internet connection with (advertised) 1Mb/s upload. It's mostly me needing to send files to him, rather than him send files to me.

We've tried compressing the video file, but of course it doesn't work as video files are already compressed! We have tried ftp but it takes around 10 hours for me to upload it. My upload on websites and ftp tends to actually clock at around 100Kb/s (Woo ADSL!) and the file tends to be around 1-5Gigs

We could give it on a memory stick to each other, but we've finished school now so we don't see each other nearly often enough compared to the frequency at which we need to give each other the files.

My friend did have the idea of memory sticks strapped to carrier pigeons but neither of us have a pigeon, or the resources to keep one... xD

I'm looking for any other ideas of how to send files to my friend, be they serious or just funny, I don't mind!

Thanks a lot

Share a Dropbox folder.

Due to the way Dropbox works, if anyone else has uploaded the same file, it'll appear almost instantly.

USB + envelope + stamp = solution.

I would agree this is your best bet if getting better internet is not possible. You could even truecrypt encrypt the USB stick and just tell him the code. That way anyone gets the stick other than him it would be useless.

Ok, my village is only connected with ADSL. Hopefully fibre soon (fingers crossed).

Haha I do have a love film subscription but that's not what we're sending.

We have shared Dropbox folder, but they don't appear instantly. If they did, then they would be using some sort of magic to upload them so quick!

Edit: sorry didn't really read yours properly... The file is original game recording I'm afraid.

The last one was 3.24GB and is roughly 1hour 20 minutes, 1920x1080, 25fps. They're mp4 files straight from Vegas.

I was thinking posting a usb and its not a bad idea seeing as we can get it there next day.

What does speed matter anyway? Dump it into dropbox, go to bed and it'll be done in the morning.

Because my pc is literally 30cm away from my pillow at night... With the stock intel fan still, it's not very quiet xD Plus because of the bright IO Activity light, it turns into a strobe so its as if a rave is going on in my bedroom when I'm trying to sleep...
