I recently bought some of these from an Amazon re-seller for my mate for £20.10 delivered. I read up on the fakes and when they arrived they looked genuine, small sennheiser writing on the case, good clasp, everything looked real.

However I tested them against my Sennheiser CX300 that I have had for about 3 - 4 years and they sound horrible in comparison. They are nowhere near as loud, bass is muddy and the main reason I think they are defective/fake - the balance is out. The left earbud is noticably louder than the right, this is more evident with treble.

I will not name the amazon reseller because I will hopefully get a refund and buy some different earphones.

What is recommended that is around the £30 price mark that are as good, if not better than the Sennheiser CX300? (version 1)

Do you have CX500s and are impressed with them?

I've had CX300's and CX500's. Tbh there's not a huge difference between the two (The CX300's seem more bassy but both sets are exactly boomy)

Since bass is my preference I prefered the CX300's but now have some V-Moda's. Very impressed with them since buying them (They were recommended on here!)

Yes £20 is little too cheap (a quick google search suggests it retails for about £30ish) so my guess is that you got some fake ones. Although however I got mine for about £20 over a year ago (from a a very popular website) but I think it must have been reduced or something.

To be honest, I'd never buy any Sennheisers from ebay or any market sellers. Just isn't worth it, I'd rather just pay the extra £5-10 for some 100% genuine ones from a reputable store/site.

To answer your questions, yes I'm pleased with my CX500's.

They may be "official" products build under license by Chinese manufacturing - I seem to remember something about this lately - the sound quality isn't a patch on the proper senns - they aren't "fakes" but imo thats just stretching a point.

Personally I'd be looking for something like the sennheiser mx660.

No, those are fakes. Anyone who gives you that line is lying.

Its been awhile since I read up on this - but IIRC the official Sennheiser products have "Made in Germany" on them (tho they are usually manufactured in China) - but there are also lines officially "licensed for other markets" that are cheaper Chinese manufacturing and say "Made in China" on them - they are not officially authorised for sale in Europe or the US and any on sale here would be effectively "gray" imports (they don't sound as good as the proper ones). If they say made in Germany but sound crap they are most likely fakes. These seem to have flooded Amazon retailers lately.
