How long do they need breaking in for? + best music to do the job?
mine will be here any day now[cant wait]:D
£200 inc del good deal? too late now lol
any info would be great

i have them, they are awsome :)

they produce the best sounds when playing chilled out music, everything else they are really good at, but chilled stuff, they come into their own :)

£200 is about going rate. i paid £189 for mine about 8 months ago i think, but they were cheaper back then before all this credit nonsense. id give them a good moderate running in for at least 50 hours, more like 100 to get the best out of them

With mustard to bring out some spicyness :D

Enjoy them during burn in, then consider an amp for the future, which will truly transform them. A nice Benchmark DAC1 or just go for a Graham Slee solo, senn use them as their demo amps and I love them sound they produce together !

i was thinking of getting a yamaha rxv 465[5.1] amp would this be good?

I think they meant a dedicated headphone amp. The headphone output isn't of the highest quality on most 5.1 AV amps, unless you're talking silly money.

They definitely need a headphone amp.

I am no audiophile by any means, yet a appreciate good sound. The HD650 can be appreciated even by a good soundcard with no amplifier. While an amplifier, would drive them better you can still enjoy the HD 650 with no amplifier.

After some reading in audiophine forums for getting a good amp for my HD650 l came to the conclusion that for the price the Xonar Essence is unbeatable.

For the price you get a very good DAC that is included in the Xonar Essence which always helps and the amplifier while not top of the range, performs very well and can drive the HD650 with no problem.

The Essence has a built in dedicated headphone amp. It's about driving the HD650s to their potential. I tried HD600s out of both an Xtreme Music and a Xonar D2. Compared to amping them, it was very disappointing. HD555s would probably sound better than HD650s without a dedicated amp.

If you won't be going for an amp, I would recommend Goldring DR150s. From what I've read, they have a very similar sound signature to Sennheiser HD650s (the latter sounds similar but better) and perform admirably unamped. They also scale well, giving an improvement if you do buy a good amp. You could then upgrade to HD650s later down the line, already having a decent amp in place.

buying cans like the HD 650s and using them without an amp is complete silliness really... a waste of money actually

I'm glad the people posting after theforce had the good sense to put the comment in context.

I would fully agree that a pair of more efficient headphones would be more suitable for day-to-day PC use, anything 'designed' for use with a PC will fall into this category.

I think this is the case as I tried hd555's, hd595 and hd650's at a retailer and the 650's sounded pants due to being put through a cheap amplifier. The HD595's sounded much better so I went for them :D.

how are you getting on with them chad? :)
Its been 2 weeks i think? and only used them for about 3 hours[after breaking them in for 50ish hours] they sound great but i need a amp:( got them plugged into:eek: pc and laptop[see sig] gonna have to sell the laptop to buy a amp lol

i have an amblabs mini3 that i built the other week....not really a budget cmoy ....but quite a good amp ...millions of times better than a cmpy...and powers my hd 580s brilliantly. If you are interested contact me @ [email protected]
Im thinking of getting a little dot mk 3 £115 plus shipping and taxes:mad: from canada.
