I have a white game zero that I am currently testing. It is hands down the best headset I have ever used.

It needs to be powered by something good rather than onboard to get the best from it.

going from 350's to the G4me One I'm currently testing Can confirm superb quality headset and really comfortable for those longer sessions.
 
My Sennheiser 595's rock for gaming, excellent positional audio. Be interesting to see how these compare, for the price they better sound awesome. Being open back they should have a superb sound stage, negative being they will leak sound.

Folks, Ive never owned gaming headphones (let alone with a microphone).

Ive heard there are dolby 7.1 type headphones? I take it these aren't the same?

These are stereo headphones but they sill create a convincing 5.1/7.1 sound stage, even better than the headsets designed for surround. 7.1 I have owned.
