Senses

The Beach Boys are supposedly the best at picking up Good Vibrations.

I'm curious about the concept of sensitivity vs intensity.

While a dog has higher sensitivity in smell than a human, does "bad odor" becomes that much more intense that they can't handle it? I certainly don't think it's the case given how my rats are so happy at chewing at my socks, and I assume they've got better sense of smell than me judging by the way they get all excited whenever I bring in my cooking.

On the other hand, I'm a supertaster - and I can't handle bitter taste because I'm too sensitive to it. I can't even drink sparkling water because they taste of something when I drink them. As I understand it - supertasters have more taste buds than an average person, surely that shouldn't affect the intensity of tastes should it?

Eagle's have amazing vision! Spotting mice from a few hundred feet. And bats, the way they can fly with next to no vision using only a sort of sonar to detect objects.
Though i believe Humans still have the best all round group of sense's.

I would imagine that comes from higher level thinking though, I mean as babies we probably aren't bothered by poo or farts but as we grow up we are taught to be disgusted by them - because they are unhygienic and could be dangerous to us I guess. So it's a learned thing, the smell itself probably isn't that nasty.

Yes it is or we would like it. Or perhaps you do? ;)

Have you seen Mr Hanky recently? :D

I've often wondered that. If your sense of smell is 1000 times as strong as mine, I think you would run a mile from dog doo, not stick your nose in it.

I'm assuming they can scale down their senses, ignore what would otherwise be an overload. That would be necessary for any very acute sense.

I cant smell a thing, nor can I taste very well. I could probably do a lot of the jobs nobody wants to do, and it is quite amusing when even the dog gets off the bed when hes farted, and im just sat here not noticing any difference :D
