Sensible and decent CPU cooler

Funny you should say that, I was originally looking at the Hyper 212 because it was so damned cheap, but is that going to handle my OC'd 4770K? I'm almost certain I'd need to be replacing the fans on that too, no?

So Hyper 212/412, Phanteks (perhaps with different fans) and Megahalems.

I'm actually quite price concious with this buy because I really want to get my hands on a second MSI R7950 before they disappear.

Definitely with different fans, the standard one's were getting to about 50db at full speed. Go for some Gentle Typhoon AP-15's, much better than anything else on the market for radiators and heat-sinks currently.

If you're looking to go for a 4.5Ghz OC you probably want to be looking at dual tower, I'm not sure though, no experience, but Haswell runs hotter than Ivy which ran hotter than Sandy Bridge which could just about safely get to 4.5Ghz on a Hyper 212.

I don't think Haswell runs anywhere near as hot as many claim it does. I think it's similar to Ivy. It's only when doing particular tasks that it gets that hot.

As I said, if any of these coolers are comparable to the H50 I have now, then they will be fine.

I think it's a little hotter than Ivy, but the main reason that heat stacks up is because of the paste Intel used under the IHS, as was with Ivy.

But that's meant for a different thread. :D

Back on topic, some actually report it being a better cooler than the H50, so you're probably good to go. ;)

If it was just the IHS it'd be the same at Ivy, the combo of that and the voltage regulator make it the hotter of the pair, but real world it's quite similar.

I would just like to mention that I have some rather ridiculous heat spreaders on my RAM. Is this likely to be an issue?

Probably not, the Ram slots look about the right distance from the socket not to be a problem. If needs be however, you can just use the furthest 2 slots, I think it'd definitely fit then.

I'd imagine in an engineer at some point would've considered that a significant amount of space might be needed for a cooler on such an expensive board. :D (Well, you would've hoped anyway. :|)

Maaaan, just seen a picture of the Megahalems on an ROG build. With those sexy slim fans looks godly. What fans are those...?

Edit: Oh wow... £14.99 for a fan O.O And they're out of stock at OCUK.
