Sensible V6 for less than 2k?

Well, since another guy on RT just said that the ST24 he drove was rubbish, I'm thinking that maybe all ST24's were rubbish and just a big con by ford :p

But yes, yours was much much better than the heap of a car I drove previously :) Happy now?

But Tom, do tell... who left you sucking on fumes? :D

pffft you're like 30bhp up :p wait til all my svt bits are on it should be a lot more even then

Well, when we parked up there was indeed smoke ;)

I was a little concerned at first but am 99.9% sure it was CV grease dripping onto the exhaust

nevermind the boost pipe coming off TWICE in 10 minutes :p

In all fairness, you didn't do too badly! It was only in 3rd gear that I really made any considerable progress.

Oi! Less of that! :p

just be ready for the difference in fuel bills, with a 2.5L V6 and heavy right foot (and you right foot will be heavy to make it sound nice) you can watch the fuel drain out of the tank !!

some other more random suggestions ...

Probe 2.5L V6 not to everyone liking, but i had one and it moved.
Maxda MX6 ... same car as the probe !!
Maxda MX3 ... might be a bit small, but your money would get you a doozy
Mazda Xedos ... nice motor, same engine as the probe and MX6
Vectra Gsi ... quite good powerful family car, although its a vectra
Mazda 323 , i think you can get a 1.8V6 model?

EDIT :

If not a V6 ...

how about a Rover 620Ti ? ... good family car, and 200BHP

Alfa 155 V6 will probably be whoefully unreliable and shabby though for 2k so not sensible really.

Alfa 164 3.0V6 230bhp is easily do-able for under 2k and you would probably get a clean, full history example. Maybe even a 166 with lots of miles if you look hard.

Be aware Alfa running costs will be high.

An older BMW 325 TD(s?)? Straight 6 though.

My dad had an auto K reg one in black with 16" alloys he bought for £1500 of a colleage with 85k on the clock for a little over a year (stop gap car) it felt brand new (well looked after though) was immaculate inside and out, had some real go and generally returned around 40 MPG, the engine had a nice throaty roar too, even the auto was silky smooth given its age.

No automotive worries in over 15k of driving over the 12 month period, I would have snapped that car up off his hands to replace my xantia had I had the money :)

How about a 90's 525i?

M50 straight 6, just under 200 BHP :) Great sounding engine for a not a lot of money! Mine got a Head Gasket failure at 190k, so they do to a decent milage :)

Was very reliable up to that point. Probably not sensible through, fuel consumption was not the best!

Thanks again for the replies. :)

Not too concerned about fuel consumption, as I work 2 miles from home, and average 4 to 5k a year!

Main concern is the ability to fit a 5.5 stone Olde English Bulldogge in the back, and a baby on the back seat, so unfortunately that rules out anything that isn't an estate or a hatchback, so no 3 series, 5 series, MX6, Xedos, 620Ti, 155, 156, etc! :(

Mondeo, Vectra and Mazda 323 look promising though. :)

1992 J Reg BMW 525i
5 Doors, Manual, Estate, Petrol, 98,000 miles, Blue, 2 Owners. double size sunroof, great drive, more details to follow! please ring for more details!

£1295 :)

Have seen a few E36 328i Touring's for less than 2k now too, nearest one's 200 miles away though! :(

Didn't realise they were in my price range, may be worth investigating further. :)

E30 3series estate (325i - 2.5 straight 6). They handle well and are pretty cheap.

Dad's had one for a few years now. They get niggly problems but not much more (had an HGF at 130k+ miles). Gotta be manual though.

FTO 2.0 V6 Mivec 199~ BHP also may now fall within the 2k category. good cars too.

Because they are a large hatch/estate big enough to shove an English Bulldog in the boot of :/

No hatch, shame, don't think he'd like it in the boot, he'd probably eat his way out!
