Sensible V6 for less than 2k?

i dont think mondeo v6 are that fast, they arnt if any faster than the 2.0 black top i had.

try one with a working IMRC :p It's amazing the amount of v6 mondeos that are out there running with a broken IMRC, no idea how people put up with it for the sake of 4 bolts and £40

I had a 2l black top before this, and it was CONSIDERABLY slower.

Probe 2.5L V6 not to everyone liking, but i had one and it moved.
Maxda MX6 ... same car as the probe !!
Maxda MX3 ... might be a bit small, but your money would get you a doozy
Mazda Xedos ... nice motor, same engine as the probe and MX6
Vectra Gsi ... quite good powerful family car, although its a vectra
Mazda 323 , i think you can get a 1.8V6 model?

Wrong about the Xedos mate, there are two flavours, the Xedos 6 2.0V6 and the Xedos 9 3.0V6 - neither are available in 2.5. Mazda Xedos are lovely cars, much rarer than the mondeo. THe 6 pulls well but has to be a very late model with the improved handling, though just under the 150bhp mark. The 9 is the daddy and isn't that much more expensive to run than the 6.

Out of intrest, my 97 R plate Xedos 6 has done 9k and only needed a couple of tyres and front pads - not bad considering it came with 125k on the clock

The xedos is the one to go for I paid £600 for mine, a P reg 140K with full service history, leather pack, electric roof & windows, aircon, cruise, electric seats, auto box. Plenty of toys.

The one to look for is the Xedos 9 with the 2.3l Miller supercharged engine. rare as rocking horse excrement but a car that will HOLD its value and might even increase in value.

Here is my Xedos 6

Yep id go with that.

Mine never missed a beat, returned 12mpg on average though :D.

I could get 30mpg on a run from mine, even 40mpg at a push but you had to drive like an absolute gay to get anything like that. Around town my figures match yours, 15mpg ish.

The estate is HUGE. You could fit 10 dogs in there.

I guess I was driving like and absoloute gay in that case :D

LSD on them too and they go sideways with styleeee :D

I've calmed down (a little) since then. A bit, maybe :p

Are you willing to settle for 5 cylinders? Another idea is a Volvo 850 T-5 or perhaps T-5 R (though I'm not sure the latter can be had for 2k), plenty of space in the estates, rapid performance :)

Alternatively since you mentioned 150bhp, a bland but good driving Primera GT hatch? Unbeatable grip and solid reliability though not the fastest of machines.

When I said "like a gay" I meant to get 40mpg not 13mpg ;).

I didn't get mine sideways often, always in the wet. Controllable but not a lot of feel.

The 850's probably a bit big, along with the Omega too unfortunately.

The Primera sounds good though, not a V6, but I can almost live with that. Was looking round one along the road from me yesterday, decent looking car, off to the 'Trader website now.....

Well, I suppose my vote would have to go for a Vectra (awaits flame fest). But having had two "through our household" both with years under their belt. If you can find a good example, they are nice cars, and have quite some poke for what they are. The two above are 2.5L V6 CDX (ABS,TRACS, Full leather, CD changers, all the toys), worthy to note the engines in this model are actually Saab engines in disguise, so they are fairly reliable . Most recent one bought for £2,400, Mint - with 52,000 on the clock.

I would also reccomend the Volvo 850 T5, not a bad old tank, and even with oil coming out of every hole, 160,000 on the clock, and shot piston rings/turbo - it still goes, and hasnt given up yet. Not to mention being able to haul a small city in the back.

Anyways just my experience, no we dont have both vec's anymore before anyone asks - the one on the far right got rear ended at 40mph at a junction and written off =[

I like the look of the '99 onwards Vectra (facelift?) SRI, looks a little meaner than the older ones, but I prefer the look of either of them to the Mondeo (apart from rg-tom's, that looks lovely!).

Still trying to find anything local'ish to me at reasonable prices, loads of things at the opposite end of the country! :(

Ours in particular , are Vectra Model B ( In the picture, a P and and R reg), had to travel 100 or so miles to get it.

I know what you mean about the SRI, i think you are most probably thinking of the Model B Vectra SRI.. or the C.

Thanks for the links, will give me something to read up on.

How reliable have yours been? Anything in particular to look out for if I'm going to view one? Thanks again. :)
