Serial Port Oddness

Hi all :)

OK so I'm doing an electronics project that involves a programmable microprocessor (PICAXE). The PC communicates with the thing via a Serial port (9 pin RS-232 job).

It was all working fine, and suddenly the serial port doesn't want to communicate. I can confirm it's not a problem at the microprocessor side, as it works fine on two other systems.

This one, however, will not work, so I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the serial port/computer. Any ideas on what I go about checking?

System spec:
AMD Athlon 4400+ X2
Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 64 Cooler
Asus A8N-SLi Premium
2x1Gb GeIL DDR400
BFG GeForce 7900GT
WD 160Gb SATA HDD
