I have just recently built my new system which is a e6300 2gb pc5300 ram 250gb sata and x1950 pro with a 775dual-vsta. Having got it all up and running i seem to be having some problems with stability. I get crc errors quite often and every time in do scandisk i get errors found. I have used memtest to check my memory and there are no errors with that. Could i have a faulty harddrive. Also when i download files they seem to be corrupt quite often.

Hi

Try running a live CD or DVD of Ubuntu. It does not touch your hard drive unless you want it to.

If the crashes does not happen when not using the HDD at all, It probably need changing.

download S&M (careful how you google this ;) ) and run the HDD tests. There are probably other disk testing apps, but I've only used this one.

ok i scanned my hdd using a program called HDtune and it didnt find any errors. Could it be a bad xp install as thats both my memory and hdd tested now without fault.

Download from here...

Look for S&M 1.8.2 near the end of the page, there's a direct download link.

btw, is it possible you have stability issues due to dodgy/ambitious overclocking? You may need to dial down a little.

Reinstalling the o/s may help, but I'd leave this until after I had checked other aspects - unless you feel the installation was corrupted somehow. good luck :)

everything is at stock as i dont overclock so that shouldnt be a problem. Ive just installed a regular ide HDD as opposed to the sata one and as of yet i have no errors so looks like the sata was a problem for some reason. Strange

nice catch. it might be worthwhile to make sure your mobo drivers are up to date :)
