seriously thinking going back to vista

Cartoony bloat?

Again, this is one that I am dead set against, but then considering I run Windows in teh classic Theme and I run Linux with Emerald & Compiz Fusion, Im sort of shooting myself in the foot.

Id like to say that themes slow a PC down but come on... Thats been proven wrong years ago, and since you can turn it off, its a completely lame excuse to have a moan about.

Indeed, on 7 the whole DWM is drawn by the GPU anyway so no system resources are taxed with themes being on too :p

Each version gets tougher on hardware? Are you sure? In what ways?
Driver signing and execution for one, which sounds exactly like the problem the OP is having.

The only problem I've had since upgrading to W7 is with my dvd drive being slow, but I don't think it's related as it was crap before ;).

And how exactly is shake "cartoony bloat"? 7 is less cartoony than Vista which in turn is less cartoony than XP.

What do you consider "cartoony" in Vista but not in Windows 7? They're pretty much identical in my experience.

Not having a go - just interested to know what you had in mind. :)

Yes, Im confused about that one... Its blatantly clear that more recent releases have been more cartoony than the previous ones and yet you ( mkr ) say its the other way around?

XP is more cartoony than 2K
Vista more so than XP and W7 more than Vista!

I think that Linux distros have done the very same thing too! - even the icons, while looking nice, also look a little more like comic / cartoon pictures rather than looking like photos.

Win7 looks less cartoony then vista because they've sorted out the colour scheme of window elements (no more random yellow and green panes) and the taskbar's less cartoony because it's nice and flat - no fake glistening bulge.

'Cartoony bloat'? I just changed 7 to the Classic theme out of curiosity. It's so damn ugly... I felt like I was using Windows 2000. What's the point in using an ugly theme if it doesn't cut down on resource use and it's not easier to use?

The default colour shading of Aero Glass, the tubular taskbar itself (on 7 it's flat and has more glass, looks more profesisonal).

Just that really as it sets of first impression when you boot in after a new install.

Newer versions are less cartoony but Both Vista and 7 are far less cartoony than Tellytubby XP.

I could post screenshots comparing both side by side to make my point more obvious but there's little point when you can just Google it so why waste time!

would it not be worth going back to stock for a bit or at least dropping the O/C back a bit and just see if you still have any of these problems?

Here's a thought.

If the machine was newly built with Vista then chances are the machine was not OC'd until after the OS was installed, set up and stable. Then you start OCing and maybe cause a small risk of data corruption and instability. Probably quite rare and most of the time probably causes just an unnoticible bit of artifacting in games or whatever.

If you then leave the machine in place while upgrading to Win7, congratulations you may well have caused data corruption while your shiny new OS is copied over and now it doesn't work properly.

That said, if you do go back to Vista, sell me your Win7 upgrade for cheap :)

(what's up with *'ing out f t w?)
That acronym used to have a somewhat different meaning and the list of swearies hasn't been updated for modern internet slang. Pretty silly really considering this is on the main site.

Oh for the love of...

It is not Windows 7 that is the problem, it is your choice of software and or drivers that have brought on the instability. As you said yourself, it is unlikely to be your hardware configuration if it worked fine with the other operating systems, but jumping to the conclusion that the actual OS itself is to blame is, quite honestly, foolish and ignorant.

I won't go so far as to blame your ability to build the OS, however dumping it to go back to Vista would just be moronic.

Finding the cause of the instability would be a far more worthwhile excercise.

+1

Try going back to Windows 7 not Vista. By that I mean format clean and install 7 again. Although he's likely already gone back with a clean Vista and thinks it's better than 7 now.

Probably retreated back to his parents basement as he realized the actual problem was in between the desk and his chair....

I got to ask... Is the OP even listening anymore?

am listening, just been busy with new year, brother having new edition to the family and getting my shop open for early jan.

i have gone back to standard settings in bios for overclock so no overclock.
gone through and updated all my drivers. and things still happening. so next is to do a clean install as and when i have time as shop should be open jan 10th.
