Hey all, just got:

E2140 CPU
120 Extreme 6pipe heatsink
Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) F1 Bios
8800GTX BFG OC
4GB 2x2 OCZ
700WATT FSP PSU

It worked fine while installing vista, then had it on for an hour, switched off........30mins after switching off it now wont start, it either:

1) Always comes on for 2 seconds then cuts out
2) As above, but then fans start spinning again a couple seconds after it cuts out, then cuts out again
3) Occasionally I get a highish pitched 'eeeee ....eeeeee....eeeeeee' from I *think* the graphics card, but I cant be sure, is from something, then it again cuts out,

I have to unplug it from the wall for 15 seconds then try again but the above always happens, if i try the switch while still plugged in nothing happens in the 1st place.

have tried it with just the bare essentails, and the above keeps happening, whats going on ? short out ? PSU had it ? HELP ! :(

First of all try resetting the cmos.
Then take out ram and try one at a time.
Try reseating the graphics card.
Check all power cables are pushed in fully.
Could be a shorted board hows the heatsink connected pushpins/screwed into a backplate?
My ds3 board when u turn it on starts up then stops then boots up fully this is normal.

howdy, ill try all that, heatsink is attached via bolt through, using supplied thermrigght stuff, its plastic sheilded tho. Its just really annoying as hell as it was working fine

Diagnostic a LED's or some bleeps would have been helpful, gigabite need sort this

Also how tight have u screwed the heatsink on? when the heatsink heats up it will expand hense working while cold > heats up expands now not working, it happened to me just undo the bolts a bit see if that helps.

Really ? how very random, its quite tight but not stupidly so ? why on earth would that stop it booting ? it was quite cold when i tried it again

Not sure why it stops it booting. My tuniq was on quite tight worked fine for hours rebooted would not post fans just spun up, unscrewed the bolts a touch so that the heatsink was on just tight enough so it didnt move and bingo it booted, been fine since.
Of course it might not be your problem

hmmm still not much luck  Another thing im using a 4pin extension cable for the cpu square 4pin 12v socket, would this make a difference? my 700watt fsp cable doesnt reach the board in my p180 case
