Hi there,
Having major problems with server 03 and setting up roaming profiles, to the point where they just aint working.
Anyone know of a really good guide or got any info that may help.
Thanks

There is always lots of stuff about roaming profiles on sites concerned with Terminal Services / Citrix.

Try dabcc.com or brianmadden.com

What is the issue you are getting btw.

I feel your pain, roaming profiles are a pain in the rear.

What I would say is check your permissions using the effective permissions tool to make sure theres nothing filtering down that shouldn't. Check the user profiles to make sure the correct path is being used.

Ask yourself though, do your users move between stations very frequently and do they really need a roaming profile? Could you encompass the majority of common settings in a mandatory profile? Maybe use a common default user profile profile and then a local profile?

Cheers for the input guys.
The problem in particular being:
I create a roaming profile
Log on said account first time
Account works fine all is well
Log on second time
Account is broken, loaded a different a locked down profile, no right clicks incorrect start menu desktop etc etc

My users move round quite frequently and all require the ability to modify there profile to their end.

cheers

what permissions have been assigned to the share that contains the roaming profiles.

Any events in the event log during the first logoff and second logon?

That sounds like you've got a group policy being applied to the user. Use the Group policy management console to run a check on a specific user account to see what gpo's are being applied.

Have you been mucking about with folder redirection by the way

That makes sense. Do what Ole Ftang has suggested, or if unsure have an experienced admin help you. GPMC can be found here:

Roaming profiles can work perfectly well. In my 10 or so years using them I find them more of a god send than anythng else.

Any more problems post back here.
