Hi all,

As per the title of the thread, we have a windows 2003 r2 server which doesn't auto login unless the defaultusername key in the registry is set to [email protected]. The defaultdomain key is also set to the correct domain.

When you get to the login screen it's picking the default domain name as it's local computer name.

Is there anything else to check?

We only get this on a small handful of servers, the other servers we have which are identical setups don't have this problem.

Cheers

Why in gods name would you want a server to auto-login?

Granted the behaviour is odd being that you are seeing different results on different servers, but still, it's not something you should be configuring!

In the defaultusername set it to domain\username and put the defaultdomain to blank.

And i agree with the above. You shouldn't be doing auto login. I hope the account has no privileges. Also, 2003 R2... you need to get rid of that!!!

Our requirements are very strict and go under a ridiculous amount of testing due to the safety case, so upgrading to a newer O/S isn't that simple.

I'll try changing the defaultusername to contain the domain name.

Try running "control userpasswords2" this should give you an option to auto login, been a while since I have done it but we use to do this on our old Win2K servers
