Server 2012 Essentials stuck searching for updates

Hi Guys,

As per title, I noticed the other day that my server had downloaded or installed updates since January.

I clicked on check for updates and it just constantly searched but returned nothing.

I searched online and tried stopping wuauserv deleting the software distribution folder and rebooting to no avail. I then tried using the Windows Update resolver cab which it stated it fixed issues but still no luck.

After investigating this for 4 days I thought I'd start again on a clean slate and re-installed the OS. I done this today around 6pm and as soon as it completed I checked for updates - straight away it found an update for Windows Updater and installed that. I rebooted and now again it seems to be stuck searching for updates?

Anyone else experienced this recently?

Hi Kia,

Thanks for the reply. I actually done some further investigation last night and tried sfc /scannow which corrected some system files I then rebooted and downloaded the following standalone agent:

I used the one for windows server 2012 and left that running over night but checked this morning and that was also still checking for updates after 12 hours.

I've double checked to make sure the server is definitely activated and that's fine.

Would the agent you posted be worth a try as its for server 2012 r2?

When I get home tonight I'll post the Windows update.log to see if anyone has any ideas.

Can anyone see any issues there?

Is it related to the part where it says "WARNING: WU client failed Searching for update with error 0x8024000b"
