Hi all,
I acquired a server motherboard (ASUS KGPE D16) with two 16 core Opteron CPUs and RAM, all mounted with coolers (or so I thought). Having plugged it in, I got it to boot up and display windows on my monitor when suddenly all went black (motherboard didn't turn off - just the screen went black). Since then, I can't get it to give a video signal.
Looking at it, the coolers on the CPUs are rather meagre, and I'm now wondering if they were supposed to be used in conjunction with additional ventilation.
They look like the cooler in the image shown here:
Is it possible that the CPU has cooked itself? I wasn't running any demanding tasks (just sitting on the desktop). Do these CPUs not have an auto switch off?
