Server naming compition

SME, it's not such an issue when you can count the number of servers on one hand.

I'd agree here.

Our place is relatively small, so we follow the names I mentioned above, but each of our desktops has a 40GB as a share. My boses machine is called the 'thelegend02', and our room booking system/resources management service is called 'thebigcheese' (forgot about those too...but they're workstations...)

ADC1 is good at a school instead of SHSADC001 which is just needless extra characters.

Citrix with the Wyse termials? Cringes. Should turn it into a remote access server. With RSA keys. Would be fun trying to hack them in 30s before the PIN changes.

What happens when you have 2 server rooms for naming? Add in SR1/SR2? Cringes...

Would be some growth, though I'd avoid SpankTheMonkey in the first place

Deepthought
Hal
Holly
Orac

Can't have Deepthought, I've already got that, actually I'm up to Deepthought 4, my latest Quad core. Deepthought was the ultimate computer, far too grand for a server!

Others presently at home are:
Ford Prefect ( Currently Ford_Xeon, also in it's 4th derivative)
Zaphod (was my first dual cpu m/c of course)
Arthur (My Netbook)

Might I suggest Marvin? Surely he was the ultimate servant?
