Server vs Sharepoint

Hey,

i've recently got a client who needs a few W10 machines upgrading.

Currently he owns a domain but isn't linked to office 365 (using imap) and a server running server 2019 for file storage. They are using 365 for the software word etc however they are .onmicrosoft logins due to no linked domain.

I'm thinking link his domain to office 365 and set them up using sharepoint instead? Either backing up emails to a pst in outlook first or use the 365 migration tool. imap isn't being used for contacts or calendar, just emails.

Going forward he would like things more streamlined. Only 2-3 users required.

Any thoughts?

On the face of it, it seems like it's absolutely worth exploring. Server 2019 is in ESU right now anyway. How old is the hardware it's running on and how much data is being stored on the server?

Do you know what 365 licenses your client has currently? Do they include any kind of SharePoint license or is it just purely office apps? If not is there any appetite to potentially spend more on 365 licensing to get what you need?

Currently the client has 4 onmicrosoft accounts within the admin 365 site, all with Business standard licenses. (no linked domain yet).

Looks like these include sharepoint licenses, desktop apps already.

365 Business Standard includes 1TB of SharePoint storage for the org, plus an extra 10GB for each licensed user I believe. This is in addition the 1TB of OneDrive storage each licensed user has too.

Based on that, moving their server data (pending how much there is and what it is) and plumbing in their domain into Exchange Online would absolutely streamline their workflow and should also make it simpler to manage/support too.

Are the devices they use company owned or just BYOD/personal devices? How are these managed?
