Hi

Asking for someone else, are service plans worth it on new cars? , in this case a Hyundai (hybrid), they come with 5 years warranty I believe. If they plan to service it at Hyundai for the time being, I presume a plan is the best?

Im also thinking it's best to service it at Hyundai while in the 5 year warranty.

It's simple maths.

How much is the service plan?

How much would it cost you to pay for servicing yourself over 5 years, allowing for inflation?

Is the plan cheaper? Get the plan. Is the plan not cheaper? Don't get the plan.

Yeah, not got prices yet, Im pretty sure it will work out cheaper, and its best to get serviced at Hyundai while in the 5 year warranty.

I had a service plan for 13 years on my Corsa (renewed it a few times) as the price was much cheaper than paying each year. I only didn't bother this year as I've got the EV as well so do most of my miles in that these days. Did get my local garage to do an oil and filter change though with the Dexos 2 oil I supplied.

I also think.... it depends on the plan a little. My first "plan" was a huge mistake, seemed cheaper on paper, but did not read small print.

Arnold Shark
service, included oil and filter change.
Everything else was extra and I mean everything.

So it was a false economy, One car we have a service plan currently which is decent, the Focus I just put away £30 a month.

What else would be chargeable or not on a service?

If they only did an oil and filter change then that's not a service, unless I am mistaken.

Pollen filter not included. Spark plugs not included etc.

If I recall, it was oil filter, air filter and oil change. Nothing more so, minor / major service didn't really exist.

They wanted to put new disks and pads on the rear at first service. I was like nah it's got 16k miles on it and I've only done 3 since I bought it. Took it elsewhere and funny enough they were fine.

Last time I looked when I had a Hyundai you didn't save anything it just meant you could spread the cost monthly.

Once you get past the 5 year mark their fixed price servicing is very reasonable though as it includes a years breakdown cover as well.

I would say the Skoda one i have been on was worth it. Services / MOT / Extended Warranty and Breakdown cover. was about £26 a month i think.

£150 for two Touareg services.

When booking in the service and MOT the woman was like “and thats a total of £750”. Mentioned service plan, all good, although I expect it went from big service to just an oil change - I should have asked in hindsight. But £150 even just for two oil changes is fine…

I think I remember reading that you own(ed) an A250e. Did you get the plan?

I have an A250e and did, seemed like a no brainer at the time.

Got one for our Lexus because they 'lock in' the price of the servicing as it is at the time of purchase and the dealer service gets the year extra warranty. They also allow you to take out money if you sell the car so you don't lose it. So for this then yes it was worth it.

When I got my GR86 they offered a 3 year service plan which was basically the same as paying it as and when it needed so didn't bother. Some owners reported of a 10 year plan but my local dealer wouldn't offer that. I would have been tempted by that as it would have been inflation proof.
