What charges would you apply to the following services?

Repairs (per hour)

Upgrades (fixed price)

PC Health check (fixed price)

Installing a home network (1pc, 1laptop, 1 printer and a router)

Backups

Just a little research..

Thanks

I've never had to employ someone to do anything technical nor have I ever charged my services so this is just a guess but I'd be aiming for something that gives you an hourly rate of £20-25 per hour minimum. If that seems expensive just remember that you are likely to be called at various (probably inconvenient) times throughout the day because people will tend to expect some form of free technical support.

£35 first hour
£25 there after.

Remember that when they look at porn and their computer breaks it will always be your fault, and you will be expected to be available on the phone at all hours day and night.

Also I would add 30% to any parts, to cover their support, as when they change isp and their router stops working that will also be YOUR fault, when the install more and more software and things start to play up its YOUR fault, if they buy a generic 1gb usb stick and back up all their important data, put it through the washing machine and it dies, its also YOUR fault.

edit: as for the health check, I would advise a cheaper rate as its a big oportunity to sell an upgrade.
