SETI@home News Vol. 120 (23/01/2011)

Learnt my lesson and will not be ordering abroad again. Ok i suspected a few quid customs and excise but £101 am not happy, for that kind of money i could have purchased a second inflatable susan boyle....moan moan grumble grumble

Sorry to hear that Toxic :( If it's any consolation it'll be reet grand once it's all set up and running; can't wait to see it in action!

Quick question to all: How many WUs can a 460 run simultaneously? Am thinking of replacing my OC'd 250 (shader clock at 1890) with one and would just like to know if the upgrade's worth it (currently churning out one WU in ~20 mins).

I would say to run 2 at a go if its the 1gig, try it even if its the 768 but it might be short on memory to do that.
I know Mr Edge swore by 3 tasks at a time on a 470 but i have never ran more than 2 on any gpu, run it at 1 task take notes of completeion times etc, rinse lather repeat.:)

Thanks lads :) Was looking at a 1GB card anyway, probably the MSI Cyclone as I could do with it being as quiet as possible.

Ive been running 2 on my 460 768mb's and 3 on the 460 1gb card, not done any wu times to compare tho.

Out of curiosity has anyone on here run seti on a Radeon, never done it but have a few idle as Milkyway has temporarily dried up.
It will be back up before you know it but I would like to know how to go about it anyway because I'm curious just how much of an increase in RAC they would give me.
FYI the GPU's are HD4870's.

I think you can currently only run Astropulse tasks on ATI cards, and only then on certain cards (though I'm sure yours is capable of it). If you want to try it you'll need to download a Lunatics app (here) and then faff about with app_info. Apart from suggesting you read the release notes (on the page I linked to), I'm afraid I can't give you any more help as I've never tried it myself.

Think I will give the Open CL version a bash, I need to get closer to Toxic before he fires the SR2's up :D

Expect a few app info problem posts shortly

Update:

Just keep getting 'Message from server: No work is available for Astropulse v505'

Which I dont get because the server status page shows lots of Astropulse ready to send

Its crunching on the CPU but I'm not really bothered about that.
