Today's news is brought to you by the websites All Project Stats, BOINCstats and Team Starfire World BOINC Stats ‘N Stones.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year!

The first news post of 2009 also marks my one year anniversary of doing the SETI news (one volume was missing due to holiday)! How time passes...

Berkeley appears to have had one or two problems with the scheduling server, which handles WU distribution but also seems to have affected WU uploads. I've only today been able to send the >200 WUs that were backlogged, and now I’m seeing more upload problems with WUs that have been completed within the past 10 hours or so, so something's still amiss. This obviously is the reason why our production – and thus RAC – is well down from last week, so there's no need to panic!

As always, congrats to all the tiffy winners – lots again this week! - and a warm welcome to our newest member :)

Nice one TT, doesn't seem like a year since you started these posts. Big slap on the back to you, you've helped to raise the profile and keep the team alive. I have been crunching for years, but it wasn't until your news posts that I joined the OCUK team..

For those that are using the CUDA based client (6.4.5) the guys over at Lunatics have a modified version

http://lunatics.kwsn.net/gpu-crunch...-gpu-utilize.msg12177.html;topicseen#msg12177

It saves playing around with the cc_config.xml file to get boinc to use all cores for crunching.
Keep an eye on your temps and back off the change if they get too high. From personal experience, the CUDA client is buggy, so I would not recomend using it on your main PC yet, despite it being released as an official client. My display driver crashes at least twice a day, but the increased throughput is worth it :)
Having said that, I have downed the machine and plan to fit a couple of extra fans as things are getting a little hot, but I have 830D's which were never cool chips to start with...

It is most likely crashing due to VLAR WU's. I have to clear all of these out of my cache for trouble free GPU crunching.

Search for the following string in your client_state.xml file (found in BOINC directory):

<rsc_fpops_est>80360000000000.000000</rsc_fpops_est>

Abort any found with this value and it should all be happy sailing. I haven't had one crash since I started doing this (touch wood, fingers crossed and all that!!!).

I'm still having problems running it with the new client, had a BSD now, with memory management message ... but assuming I can keep going, will give a parp for the_running_man & York Overclocker as active members I'm approaching

Another big one for me but I fear a complete halt in all crunching for any projects coming up this year.

My daily cobbles has dropped sgnificantly as work now shuts down all systems between 19:30 and 07:00, almost 12 hours of idle time lost :(

Tying into that is a move to a new SAN from the current server server setup. This *should* give me a couple of servers to play with as test rigs (crunchers :)), but the new infrastructure and new policies surrounding that will probably mean an end to workstation crunching which is a shame.

Still, as long as I'm able to add to the score, by however few cobbles it is!!
