Ok, I completely forgot to set AHCI after installing windows on a new system with an SSD. I've reloaded all apps, data and settings then realised about the AHCI setting when the Intel RST drivers wouldn't install. Apparently, this is the method for setting AHCI after windows 7 install:

Intel ICHR9 chipset.

1. Startup "Regedit
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
3. Open msahci
4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
6. exit "Regedit"
7. Reboot Rig and enter BIOS (hold "Delete" key while Booting

In your BIOS select "Integrated Peripherals" and OnChip PATA/SATA Devices. Now change SATA Mode to AHCI from IDE.

I was wondering if anyone has actually tried this sucessfuly and not reported any problems afterwards..

Thanks

about 10 months ago I installed Win 7 64bit to a (normal mechanical) hard drive set to IDE by accident - meant to have it in AHCI for Hackintosh puropses. Anyway, used above fix and it all works a charm, has been for 10 months now.

Used those steps to do mine. It was posted on guru3d.

No problems at all works a treat on Win7 64 Bit.

Rapid Storage Drivers installed too and WEI for the disk increased from about 6.5 to 7.7 :)

There's a Microsoft Fix It here.

Make the changes in the link, restart the PC and go straight into the BIOS, change the SATA mode to AHCI, save the changes and the PC will start again and you'll be using AHCI mode.
