This is my first time overclocking and I'm trying it on my AMD PhenomII x4 955 Black Edition (CPU-Z reports revision=RB-C3). And I'm a bit confused about whether the settings I've used in my BIOS are doing what I expected.
I tried testing my overclock using AMD's Overdrive. I found that after setting my Core Multipliers to x17 taking it from 3.2GHz to 3.4GHz running Prime95 for 15 mins was enough to take my Core Temp up to 65°C above the rumoured max of 62°C. So I stopped and lowered my CPU Voltage from the seemingly high 1.4V in steps to 1.325V without seeming problem in Prime95 tests and stopped as I had plenty of temp drop by that point. I then raised the Core Multipliers in steps to x18 for 3.6GHz well below the reported comfourtable speed for my CPU of 3.8GHz, and ran Prime95 for 2 1/2 hours without incident and with a absolute maximum of 62°C and an average max of about 61°C.
So I wanted to transfer my settings to my motherboard which is a GA-MA770T-UD3. I have the option to set the CPU Clock Ratio and to set the System Voltage Control to Manual and to nudge the settings off normal. So I set the CPU Clock Ratio to x18 and the CPU Voltage Control to -0.075V from the normal 1.4V and left the rest as normal.
My issue is that while CPU-Z now shows my Core Speed as 3600MHz with Cool and Quiet disabled and a Core Voltage of 1.328V, AMD Overdrive is still showing a Target Voltage and Current Voltage of 1.4V.
Is AMD Overdrive lying about my Core Voltage after I've changed it in my BIOS?
