Setting up a Mac Mini as a media center

Hi all,

I have a Mac mini I bought last summer currently gathering dust. (I was going to do some iPhone app development before I realised how much I hated Xcode and Objective C). I'd like to repurpose it as a music/media player in my home entertainment system, primarily for music. Yes I do still have the apple remote ;)

Thing is, I have little clue about OS X and apple applications specifically, I keep hearing about "Front Row", though I'm not sure if it would be the best thing to use.

I run iTunes on my PC, so I imagine I'd probably access the library across the network. As it'll be on a TV and a remote I am thinking the regular iTunes interface wouldn't be ideal, so if anyone who has done this or can point me towards a guide on what's what for non-Apple heads, let me know!

Thanks in advance.

See, that's exactly the kind of advice I needed, having not much of a clue of the software out there. Thanks Davey, had a quick look and it looks awesome!

Does it do easy music navigation, eg search/browse by artist, automatic playlists a la genius, that sort of thing?

Also, would a mac mini from last summer be able to output in 1080p to my TV?

I use Front Row. Plex is good but Front Row is sufficient enough if your content is in iTunes already. With a small app called DVD Assist it can also play DVD rips.

I'm hoping Apple will update the Front Row interface soon but I'll not hold my breath. :D

Also been looking in to this recently - obviously Freeview is available through EyeTV and the like. How do you go about receiving Sky only programs such as Lost? I've read about Netflix and Hulu but they seem to be US only, correct?

Sorry to semi-hijack the thread! :D
