When setting up either types of RAID with two hard drives do both hard drives in question need to be of the same size?

Does each hard drive have to have the same buffer/cache size as each other and can you make a RAID array with SATA1 and SATA2 hard drives?

I am looking to set up a RAID 0 array for high performance during my video editing with Pinnacle. My current spec appears to be exhibiting a bottle neck at the hard drive end, so that during vid editing things are just painfully slow.

I have seen the performance of a PC not so beefed up as mine but with a RAID 0 array running Pinnacle. It literally flew through all the editing despite there being lots of transitions and slicing going on within the project. Very annoying

They can indeed be differing sizes etc but you can only go as fast as your slowest component and you can only use as much space as your smallest drive. You could add another seagate 80gb and use that - would cost about £40 for a decent little RAID0 config.

Do note though that stark differences in drives might cause a problem, I'm not altogether sure.
