I'm interested in setting up a website preferably for free but i dont really know where to start. I have registered with a free web hosting site http://www.awardspace.com/ which offers 200mb of space and some email accounts which is fine for me. I have also registered a free name with the dot.tk people (they provide you with a redirect ULR i assume that may be where the problem lies). Is it possible to merge the 2 together or link to the webspace? If not if i registered and paid for a name with someone like ukreg ie the absolute basic 2 year deal for £3 a year would i be able to set that up?

Now your probably all totally confused  but i am pretty new to this and dont really kno what to do.

Any help would be apreciated

Thanks!

So its no good for what i want i assume? I though that may be the case. Where is the best place to buy a domain name? Is there an way to buy a name outright or can you only rent them for a certain amount of time?

Unless a providor is doing some sort of sketchy deal where they expect you to abandon the domain name after a few years, you can't buy a domain name outright. The going rate at the moment is about $10/year for a .com domain name, and there are loads of places knocking their prices down in hope of your custom.

To be honest, if you're going to stump up for a domain name you might as well go the full hog and get some proper hosting too. Have a look around and you'll find many an American host offering the world for <$10/month. Stay away from "unlimited bandwidth, unlimited disk space" deals and you're fine :)

Ok thanks for that. So i just configure the primary and secondary servers (to the ones stated by the hosting provider) when i buy the domain name? Can i then just add email addresses in the host provider and leave the domain site alone until i want to change hosters or re register the name? Or do i have to buy a specific deal with the domain provider?

Yep, configure the primary and secondary DNS servers to your host's, then you should be able to configure the domain and any email addresses attached to that domain through your hosting control panel :)
