Hi all,

I'm currently working on a website which is going to be used by a university society. One of the requirements is to be able to sell tickets online to members in the society, I've looked around at the software required and I think OSCommerce will do the job. I'm a bit stumped as to which sort of SSL certificate I need for something this small.

I've tried the Verisign wizard application on their website and it says that the one I need will cost something like £995 for a two year certificate, is this how much this sort of certificate would cost?

Any input is appreciated.

"VeriRich" :D

If you're using a third party to handle the credit card details (Paypal, Worldpay etc) you don't *need* an SSL certificate on the site itself per se however most people have been conditioned to look for the padlock and in my opinion it's a good idea to secure all parts of the ordering (for example though payment may be handled elsewhere, people would still have to create an account on your site) - it's also proven to improve the conversion rate.

You'll need a 'subdomain SSL certificate' and there's lots of guides on Oscommerce.info (or .com - the forums?) on how to set it up - it's pretty simple.

I've used InstantSSL in the past and have been impressed with the order process and their support :)

Thanks for the replies guys. It was only supposed to be a pretty small shop, ideally dealing with maybe 20-30 transactions per month so when I saw the quote for £995, I was more than a little shocked :p

Again, thanks for the information.
