hello,

I will be setting up AOL BB with a non aol router this evening.

Is there any generic router settings I can use as I have not done this before.

Will this work with the old software or will I have to enter the details into the router manually ?

Connection Protocol: PPPoE
ATM Encapsulation Type: LLC
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
MTU: 1450

You may get asked for VPI/VCI together, so just put them both in seperated by a comma = 0,38.

If your router has an auto configure then try using that as it should set itself up, then when its done it will just ask for your AOL Username/Password so you just enter them and your away. :)

PPPoA should work, and should give you reduced latency and increased throughput, for what it's worth.
The big one to watch is the MTU - though the normal recommendation's 1400 rather than 1450

Make sure you make another admin account on AOL write down the username and password and then use that as the router username and password , then use your current aol login if needed.

How come AOL use different settings to everyone else? They don't use LLU everywhere so shouldn't PPPoA work?

AOL aint bad tbh, £15 for unlimted AOL 1mb is what I am recommending my Bro for when I move out and take my Zen with me. :D
