Setting up dual monitors, help!

Can anyone give me some pointers to getting this setup?

I've got the primary dislay on VGA, and secondary on DVI.

Both monitors are up and running, primary shows windows desktop as normal, but the second is only showing the background and nothing else.

how do i get stuff to open on the second monitor, and also how do you choose which monitor it opens up on?

Have you tried dragging an application once it has been opened onto the second screen?

I don't know exactly how Windows manages multiple monitors because I use Ultramon to manage mine (well worth getting). If I open an application, drag it to the second screen and then close it, it'll open on the second screen the next time I use it.

Ultramon also gives you the 'smart taskbar' and extra functionality with regards to screen savers.

lol, yeh i was a bit lost at first, then dragged it over and that works ok.

Windows does exactly the same thing on its own

use Ultramon, allows for a taskbar on the secondary monitor.... which helps ...
