Setting up iPad for shared use with child

Since picking up a macbook for work/personal use I'm finding I very rarely use my iPad so I'd like to setup it up for my son to use (kid apps, youtube etc) however I'd like to keep my apps/data on there (mail etc) in case I need it as a contingency.

Is there any way I can put all my apps into a single folder and password protect it? (have seen a number of third party apps for older or jailbroken iOS versions but not so much for iOS 9).

Have taken a brief look at the Restrictions settings but that seems quite convoluted.

Any pointers appreciated, thanks.

My son has an iPad too and I use the restrictions and dont really have a problem. All you have to do is turn off the apps (in restrictions) that you don't want him to have access to. Once you have done this they are automatically removed from the page and will only be placed back once you turn them back on again.
I don't use his iPad but I do turn things on and off depending on his behaviour. :D

I can see where Apple are coming from on this, make it impossible to setup dual use or decent level of control so that the consumer is pushed towards buying multiple iPads. One (or more) devices per person, not the other way round.

It's a shame you can't have seperate users on iPad, seems like a big omission. Don't think it's coming is iOS 10 either.

Yeah, it's not, and it's a real pain the the backside.

It also means that really great iPhone continuity features, like data syncing, taking calls or texts on you iPad are restricted to one iPhone. My wife and I share an iPad and even if she were to get an iPhone she wouldn't be able to use those features.
