Setting up my C drive as a local .Net server

How do i configure this so i can test a .net site locally? I have enabled IIS in the administrative tool and now have a path like this in c

C:\Inetpub\wwwroot

I have placed my .net website in the wwwroot folder and then loaded ie and just typed http:// hoping for it to load the site up but it doesnt work, can anyone give me a step by step guide on how to get this working?
