Setting up new SSD

Hi all just took delivery of my first ever SSD. Bought the Intel x25-v 40gb and was wondering what i should do to install it?

I guess a fresh install of windows 7 would be best but what should i set the bios to for the drives and will it affect any other HDD's i have?

Thank you

I set my bios to achi mode and did a fresh install of windows 7 (had some complications and had to edit the registry of a previous install of windows vista as my windows 7 is an upgrade version). Changing the bios to achi mode wont affect the data on your other drives, it will give you bluescreens if you try to boot into an OS that you installed under IDE mode however.

You might want to update the firmware of the drive (go to the intel webpage and find your drive, any downloads will be in the support section, you have to put the firmware update onto a cd and boot from the cd to run the dos based update program..it only took me a few minutes to do)

hi

rather than add to the mounting ssd threads thought id just ask this question here

i just got the intel x25m ssd - (now trying to find a suitable mount kit for my antec 1200) but i was just wondering if the trim firmware was allready included with newer batches of the drive? or whether they all still needed firmware updating? thanks

I got a OEM one too, i belive you just download intel tools which includes TRIM from there website

the newers drives might have a newer firmware on them, but u might as well download the cd anyways, its just a bootable cd iso, write it to a cd, and boot up the computer with it. It'll tell you what version, and what the latest version is, and give you the option to install.

the intel one works for all versions of all thier drivers.

then just download and install the latest chipset drivers to get the most out of trim. The SSD itself doesn't need any drivers
