how do i connect to the internet with a new pc/hard-drive?
the modem is flashing, ive turned it off and on but i cant acess internet explorer/the web.

i remember a procedure to do it, but ive forgotten.

is it going through a router (lots of network points) or is it a usb modem?

Also a model number for the modem would be useful (should be on the underside of the modem)

no router, direct through an ethernet cable into my motherboard.
its actually a Motorola Surfboard modem model No: SB5101E

trying pinging 127.0.0.1. If this fails then the TCP/IP protocol suite isn't installed correctly on your machine.

If this works, try pinging to 212.58.226.232 which is www.bbc.co.uk, if you can ping the IP but not the URL, then its a resolver issue somewhere

What OS?

If XP then I think it's in networking and new net connection - just create a new connection and tell it that its a permanent connection to the net.

none of that worked, ip release, renew didnt either. blue yonder dont have a support line anymore due to merging with virgin or something, cant call anyone :O

any ideas what to do? its a new hard drive, works on my old drive but not on this new one, have this same problem everytime i format :(

What does it say when you run this command from the Start Menu and paste the output here: "cmd /k; ipconfig /all" ?
