I'm putting together a new PC this month. All my computers have been custom built before except I had a friend build them for me after I selected and gave him the parts. I no longer speak to this person and am at a loss as to what to do. I've considered asking a shop to build it for me but don't really want to do that as they are all small specialist shops which are a bit out of touch with enthusiast PCs, and I sure as hell don't want to buy a pre-built for the same price with worse hardware, so I'm considering building it myself.

I'm sure I can build it and install the OS but it's things like setting the CAS timings on my ram aswell as anything else to do with the hardware that needs to be configured?

What am I going to have to do to set those timings? and are there other things I'll have to set like CPU heatsink etc?

Well unless your overclocking most systems come with auto setting for stock cpu's generally these are enough to work fine the odd thing might need tweaking but it's unlikely it will

just build it then if there is a problem put it up on here and we will be glad to help

just remember take your time do it over a day not a hour get everything you'll think you'll need ready before hand
it's suprising how many people forget to purchase thermal compound for the heatsink/cpu:rolleyes:

lol well I'll be running the PC at stock first of all so wont need any aftermarket cooling until later

If you think you might overclock later, it's better get the aftermarket cooler now, so you don't need to remove the motherboard to fit it later

Otherwise, don't worry about setting up RAM etc - it should work without any manual configuration. You only need to do that once you start to fiddle with overclocking.
