Setting up RGB / Control / Sync

Hi All,

I might be building my own rig soon, so I've been doing some research. One area that has changed since I used to build are RGB items and specifically how to control it all.

The case I'm looking at comes with an RGB controller, and the case fans all plug into it. That control has buttons on the case to set the different modes/colours etc..

But how does the CPU RGB fan link to that system, also how does the RAM link to that system?

I've seen information online about software that controls RGB? But will that work with the case controller for RGB? Will they be sync or separately controlled.

Ideally I'd like the controller that comes with the case to control everything, but I get the impression that it won't be able to control my CPU fan / RAM RGB (I could be wrong here).

Any insight/education welcome,

Thanks again!

Phil

my cooler master td500 mesh v2 case came with controller button on the front of it you can cycle through the modes for argb don't use it though,

i'm able to control the fans speed and colours via the motherboard software Aura sync its withing the amory crate software form asus if it's enabled the button on the case doesn't so anything so must override it

just on the basic stock cpu cooler at the moment and ram is not argb so cant comment on that aspect, i've just got the 3 argb case fans currently in the software it says Addressable LED strip for it

the gpu argb logo on the 7800xt i have is not controllable with the asus software had to get the gigabyte software to change the colour.

Signal RGB would likely be able to control everything. There’s 100’s of compatible devices including fan hubs listed on their website.

It can control most things that plug into a mobo.

Cpu fan rgb possibly through controller
Ram no
Will really depend which pc case
Whether it has a controller that allows non proprietary connections
Or non proprietary pigtail connection
Phanteks cases for example usually have a jst pigtail
Let's you plug Phanteks led strips
Or anything else with a jst connector into the case leds

And yes free version of signal rgb is fantastic
Controlling 6 different manufacturers leds
In my build

But rgb is pretty much a mess
Proprietary connectors
And different softwares are a nightmare
Unless you get everything from one manufacturer
Which is why they do it of course

Now Microsoft has thrown their hat into the rgb fray too
With windows 11
So far none of my devices are actually picked up by that though

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies!

My motherboard is likely to be ASUS TUF B650

My Case is likely to be Phanteks Eclipse G360A.

From all the comments it seems very unlikely that it can be all controlled by the case. There's a better chance by plugging everything into the motherboard and using third part software to try and control everything? for example Signal RGB.

My other RGB devices:

I can't see the above parts on the Signal RGB website.

I am flexible on the above, but need to balance performance/price etc..

Thanks,

Even if not listed on signal rgb website
New devices get added often
And anything not listed may still be controlled

If its not recognised as a device in signal rgb
Things like gpu waterblock, cpu waterblock, distros/reservoir for example
As they are "dumb"
Ie dont report what they are to software
I just add them as a custom led strip
If I don't know how many leds they contain
I just start at 10 and keep increasing the number
Until all its leds are lit

Yeah have to agree
I detest armoury crate
Takes forever to install/uninstall
Works one minute not the next
Sometimes runs a service that shoots my cpu
Up by 30c
I only need it to control the oled screen on
My motherboard
Or I would just delete armoury crate

Thanks again for the responses,

Sounds like, I just need to go ahead with the build and cross the RGB bridge later, there will be a solution, it could be signal RGB or a combination of other software solutions.

That was my approach to it
Didn't want to be forced into buying everything
Form one company
I bought the hardware I wanted
Regardless of who made it

Multiple rgb softwares
There's a good chance they will conflict
Signal rgb at least notifies you
If it detects conflicting softwares
And will offer to close them if it can

Even if I had been forced to control some
Using the case buttons
And some using software
Would still have taken that route instead of
For example buying everything corsair
Just so all the connections were the same
