Hi guys. Received my second Evga GTX 480 today so i decided to set it up, or lack of :]

I popped the card into its slot and popped an 6 pin and a 8 pin into from my coolermaster 850 Modular SLI ready PSU.

When i turn the power button on i get nothing, no boot up no nothing. But i know there's power going to the system because there's my mobo lights on.

The strange thing is, when i take the 8 pin out of the second graphics card, the system boots up and runs like normal ( just with the 6 pin in)??

I have switched the graphics cards in seperate slots and it does the same to both, so its not the graphics card.

I'm just really confused . Any thoughts please?

My spec is in my signature. Kind regards

+1 to both of them. Wait...does that make it plus 2? haha.

I run sli 480gtx and i've also found that sometimes the master card changes some how and it starts only outputting through other dvi slots. So watch out for that one. Definitely reseat the sli bridge and test both cards.

Hi there, tested both cards individually and there both fine, ive also got the bridge on :]]

What i failed to mention is that i originally lost my 8 pin connector for the second graphics card so ive had to borrow my friends from a different branded psu. His is a 6pin+2 instead of a straight 8 pin, but like i said, with this unplugged the system boots, when its plugged in the system does nothing.

Am i right in assuming that all 8 pin connectors are the same for PCI-E? But it does appear as though the wire is the culprit, can anyone advise on this please?

Kind Regards

It could be the case the cables is wired differently at the psu end and your psu is detecting a fault.

Not too sure, everything does seem to point to my friends wire, but he lent me two of them and they both don't seem to work, they are from the XFX psu range. I just wasnt aware that wires couldn't be compatible?

I've reseated the SLI bridge so that's okay, ive tested both cards separately and there fine.

I've also switched the wires around in the psu to see if there was a faulty port on the PSU but still the same results?

I'm lost but everything is pointing to the 6pin+2 cable???

Got to be the cable, as being XFX the wiring internal is / maybe different.

Only real way is to use his psu or mange to get hold of new cables for your unit.

Yeah, i have literally switched everything around and its all halting when i plug in a different brand 8pin cable in :S. I'm hoping that isn't the same situation with other branded cables :S
