I ordered a SSD today it will be here Monday.

Is there any settings i need to use in BIOS, To have the SSD to run OS/Curtain Games/Music. & then the HDD as other storage/Not so important games.

I've never had more than 1 Storage device on my PC before, so i don't know whats the best way going around this.

Also when it comes do i back all my games/music up & DBAN the HDD, Then do a fresh install on the SSD? Or is there more easy options than that.

Thank's

Frist this first, you need to set up your motherboard to operate in AHCI mode in the BIOS
Then update the firmware on the SSD using manufacturers tools. Then it is best to do a fresh install of everything, games and all.
Provided all of your programs and OS will fit on the SSD then you can just use your HDD for large media files (a fair amount of documents won't use hardly any space on the SSD). J

I find it best to keep your current windows on the HDD until your new install of windows on the SSD is all complete. Then if you manage to bugger anything up then you have your old stuff to fall back on.

Soo if i have confused you:
1) Change BIOS to AHCI mode
2) plug in your SSD
3) Boot windows from your HDD
4) Download and install latest firmware from Intel is presume?
5) Restart and boot windows install CD
6) install fresh copy of windows on the SSD and set that up.
7) copy all of your documents from your old HDD which should be visible in My Computer
8) download and install all of your important programs.
9) once your happy, delete the windows files from the HDD

Think thats about it??

I didn't think about transferring from HDD to SSD, Thank's for that :)

If I change my BIOS to AHCI mode, won't the old HDD fail to boot windows?
Is it ok to plug in the SSD, update the firmware (in IDE mode) whilst booting from the HDD, then switching to AHCI just before installing windows on the new SSD? Or will the SSD not be detected / not be able to be updated whilst in IDE mode..? How do you get around this? I read something about a registry change which forces Windows to install AHCI drivers on an IDE HDD or something..?

Its fine to do that.

Delete hibernation files as well will cut windows install down by about 10 GB.

I also stop pagefiling as its not needed

Managed to use te registry edit to change the HDD to AHCI mode without needing a full reinstall. Was bricking it though :p

Setup my SSD yesterday Boot times are awesome, Only thing is by the time i install 3 or more games on steam, It becomes 15% away from being full. I Decided to install steam on my second 500GB HDD instead now, so i can install as many games as i want. Plenty room left for the SSD to keep it nice and fast :D

you can also use a program called "Steam Mover" to move the games you want to load quicker onto the ssd while keeping the rest of your games and steam on the hdd if you didn't know about that :)

Yeah i already checked that out, and i also looked at the mklink /J. but to save any problems i installed it on HDD to be safe :) Cheers though.
