So i got my new system today with Windows 7 and a SSD installed.

Though im wonder hows best to set it up because with the SSD being small i assume youd want to install non major programs/games to a drive other than c:

Would you simply create a new folder in another drive called program files and simply redirect any installations to there or is there more to it like some settings or something in windows itself.

Thanks

Keep Pagefile, temp folders and all OS folders on the SSD.

Install oft used software on the SSD.

Install rarely used software and games elsewhere

Keep your documents on the SSD. Keep media files elsewhere [unless editing them!]

If you use something often - keep it on the SSD. Don't be one of the idiots that try to move everything off the SSD making it completely pointless having one.

lol no worries there.

The main things i was going to install were the ones i use everyday like 3dmax, photoshop, after effects etc. The others i was going to put elsewhere.

Well its all up and running now, and i'm loving the SSD. Max, as suggested just flies compared to my previous rig. It used to take a fair little while to start up but not any more. Same with windows.

Sorry to ambush the thread....

....I am about to do a REINSTALL of Windows 7, there isn't anything special I need to do to the drive in terms on TRIM.....I can just put the DVD in and get Windows 7 to format the drive?

I've heard from some people that I should use a special utility to "zero" the drive or something.

I have an Intel 80GB G2.

You shouldn't need to do anything. Windows 7 will detect the SSD during install and make necessary adjustments. You may want to double-check the defrag schedule is turned off for the drive, as I have noticed it isn't always turned off on an SSD machine.

Other than you don't need to do anything. Intel has some optimisation tools that it suggests you run weekly - it can be put on a schedule so you don't even need to think about it!
