has anyone done this, just getting sick of poor bit rates and compressions with flikr and youtube and thought i'd setup my own, i have a synology nas station but wondered how reliable it is before i spend weeks with my limited knowledge of doing it.

thanks

hi,

I want to share all my videos with people so they can view them and have the option to download them at the highest possible bit rate, i'm on fibre 250Mbps down 10Mbps upload speed.

10Mbps up is going to be the important part in that. You'll kill it fairly quickly with high def video streaming.

Have you looked at Vimeo which is designed for what you're looking to do.

thanks i will check out vimeo, i never realised ( dumb ) that when someone is streaming my video from my cloud it the upload bandwidth at my end thats the problem.

You could use a virtual private server if you wanted to keep it private. It'd have a fast connection. May be feasible depending on the amount of harddrive space you require.
