Setting your mirrors - any hints and tips?

I understand that my mirrors are never going to give me much of a rearward view (2010 ZX6R) but I just wondered how everyone else has theirs set up. Any hints on how to set them up to give the best angle?

Do you push the stalk forward and turn the mirror inwards to give more of an angle or pull the stalk backwards and turn the mirror outwards?

Unfortunately mirrors on sports bikes are notoriously *****, you see your elbows more than anything.

However, when I briefly owned a ER-6F I found it best to have the stalks mid way to give maximum width and turned the mirrors to suit.

Personal preference in the end though, experiment a bit.

My advice would be to sit on the bike whilst it is on the paddock stand, place your palms on your belly so the finger tips are touching over your belly button... If you get what I mean.

Sit bolt up right with your hands doing this, you want your mirrors to show those hands, so the right showing the right hand and the left showing the left hand. Sit up, look in mirrors, then lean forward and adjust until perfect.

Once you have that sorted, you will notice they will be too high or low, then just fine tune from there.

This rule allows the mirrors the perfect viewing angle behind you.

Trust me, Ducati 748-916 mirrors are the worlds worst yet using the above technique they are perfect for me :)

On my 05 ZX6R initially I pushed the stalks as far back as they'd go and turned the mirrors to suit.

I realised I actually get a better view pushing the stalks half way and then adjusting the mirrors to suit. I get a much better view behind me this way but I do still need to move a fair bit to get a good look in them.

I keep getting a flashing blue light in my mirrors, I twist throttle and they grow faint and vanish.. not sure what the problem could be :D

Interesting technique. Will give that a go (not that I'm expecting miracles but it would be nice to see something other than my elbows if possible)

I've set mine up on my R6 using a system recomended by Lewis Hamilton....

Not dared to ride it since :(

;)

Never had trouble on my 2009 CBF125, 2009 ER-6f or 2007 GSX-R750.

As a habbit I tend to check the right mirror as I'm banking right and the left mirror as I bank left round corners etc, so I have a good idea of what is around me most of the time. Then the odd elbow twitch when required :D

Or if you're really having trouble, something like THIS? :p

Upright traillies have the best and most useable mirrors of any bike!
My Africa Twin mirrors give as perfect a view behind me as I can imagine.

Usually stalk forwards and mirrors out for me, when I've had bikes with mirrors on stalks.
If you have the stalks angled inwards it takes away too much of your viewing angle once you start getting tucked in.

I just have them so they're as far out as possible.

On some bikes they're great, on some terrible.

They were a total joke on my Mille, on my Pegaso the actual view is great but they vibrate so much I can only see that there is something behind me, not necessarily what it is :D

I've actually got into the habit of touching the mirror with my hand sometimes to let me see :/

Just learn the chicken dance and be done with it.:D

Yet to ride a sports bike with good mirrors. I can see a touch on the R1s, the duke was a complete joke.
