Hi there,

just bought an m4 and want to use it for games / apps. what settings do i need to do before/after plugging the ssd. I read that I need to change the AHCI in bios when installing windows do I need to do this as well even though im not using it as a boot drive?

thanks

only bought the 64gb and currently fine with load times of windows

the change achi mode also applies if windows is already installed?

If you run your SSD in IDE mode it will seriously gimp it's speeds so setting it to AHCI is a must. If you installed Windows in IDE mode then you could try the registry hack found here. You probably only need to concern yourself with the msahci value I would think.

thanks

so all i need to do is set the AHCI mode > Install windows to HDD > Plug in SSD ?

or do I have to plug the hdd and the ssd at the same time > AHCI mode > install windows to the HDD?

sry for too much questions :D

If you're doing a fresh install of Windows on the non-SSD drive you need to set the BIOS to AHCI, install Windows and then connect up the SSD afterwards.

yea ill do a fresh install since the registry hack might cause more problems

thanks for making it clear.

bumping my thread

Just installed the SSD using El Jimben's instructions
it was already in AHCI so I didnt change anything in the bios

ran a benchmark and showed this:

Can someone tell me if the read/write numbers are correct?
also what else do i need to do in windows settings for the SSD bear in mind that the m4 will be used only for games/apps and NOT the boot drive.

thanks
