Settings with flashgun

Hi Guys just bought a YN-468 flashgun for my 550d

i have the canon 50mm 1.8 lens and 17-85mm Is Lens

what will be the best settings on the camera for indoors shots? i am off to a house party tomorrow and want to take some nice shots

ETTL mate - Bounce it off the ceiling, walls.

ETTL is indeed a godsend in the flash world. Set your camera to manual with shutter speed of 1/200, ISO 100/200 and whatever F stop you need to achieve DOF and ETTL will do everything for you. Bounce the flash off walls and ceiling like Phate said to diffuse the light.

If the images are coming out too dark, its probably because the flash isnt powerful enough when bouncing in which case you need to bump up the ISO or open up the aperture.
