Setup for web development

Hi guys

Will be buying a new monitor soon (possibly tomorrow, thinking of popping in to the Overclockers store to take a look). Max budget of £800. Upgrading from a 24" 1920x1080 screen.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what I should get for web design/development.

I love the clarity of a 4k screen but I also like the look of these Ultra Wide's eg the new LG 34UC98-W for the desktop space but, as I understand, these won't be as sharp as the 4k's?

Dual monitor setup could be an option.

I won't be using it for gaming.

For any sort of development, I favour as much as real estate as possible by way of multiple monitors. My home setup is 2x24" and 1x27" (24" are oldish 1920x1080 and the 27" is 4K). Depending on what you're going to be developing in, you can easily have a ton of windows open at once that are useful to see without having to switch about (I usually have browser(s) open on one, console on another and then IDE on the third).

For me, its a lot easier to fire a window onto a full screen rather than arranging multiple windows on a large monitor so that's my personal preference! I don't think I could go back to having a single monitor for development, its hard enough at work where I've only got 2!

No suggestions on what monitors to actually get...but I would definitely lean towards getting multiple monitors as I find it makes life so much easier!

Thanks. I think I would be the same re: arranging multiple windows on a large screen. I guess that's just me being used to working full screen!
 
You should get one cheapy screen regardless of what you spec.

Depending on what you're developing you can bet a fair majority of users wont be on top end screens. As such you want to see it in its worst case scenario.

I've got a couple of U2515Hs lovely screens IMO. Also got a load of old low end screens collected over the years to test with.

I paid £250 for each of mine and they were at the current price ... drop them a message on here in the CS section or give them a call..

Oh yes they will go quite nice with that :)

you can daisy chain them via Display Port ....

Also remember the Dell ones come with the Pixel guarantee as some of the other will expect you to accept dead pixels ......

I think you need to read up on colour spaces - basically web pages for now can only use 8bit per channel RGB, which means many screen nowadays can cover 99 or even 100% of that color space.
I suspect HDR is coming to the web soon, but I haven't really followed, so it really depends whether you want a monitor for now or do you want to future proof it as well.
I'd probably buy one that covers 100% of Web RGB and as big as possible - possibly 40" is doable in that price range
