Hi Guys,

I was wonder if you could help me. I am waiting (or at least trying to wait) for IB to come out but trying to budget for the rest of the new setup in the mean time, though I know price and components will change between now and then.

For storage I was thinking of getting a small 60 or 64GB SSD (will choose brand type closer to the build) and running two 2TB WD Caviar Black in Raid 1. Does this sound like a good setup to you guys?

Also if it sounds good, whats the best way of raiding them, using the mobo chipset or buying a dedicated add in card? If so anything in particular?

Thanks.

May I ask what the purpose of the RAID 1 setup is?

If it's as a backup then be aware that RAID 1 is for redundancy not backup.

If your PC suffered a terminal failure, got stolen, infected with a virus, the RAID controller threw a wobbly and corrupted your data etc. you have no backup.

I suggest you use 1 HDD in your PC and then the second as an external drive so you can properly back up your data and store the drive away from the PC.

I would also suggest that instead of the WD Black you look at something like this:

Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

No its not for backup, I will use an external drive for that.

It mostly that extra piece of mind, if one fails I dont have too much down time while I replace the drive, plus slightly faster read times...I think?

Can I ask why that drive over the Black?

Thanks again.
